Before purchasing new skincare, it's important to understand what benefits they may be able to provide us with, who they're suitable for - and how they work. I purchased the staple CeraVe product line to give you some insight behind the science of the products and my won personal experiences.
The Brand: CeraVe
CeraVe are well known for their cermaides - which you will notice when looking at the active ingredients of the products below.
"In 2005, CeraVe’s dermatologists developed a line of skincare products enriched with a blend of three essential ceramides (ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II), fatty acids and other lipids to help repair and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier."
When reviewing the brand, from the branding, packaging and formulas - it is clear that CeraVe is a professional and medical/science focused company.
They focus on being gentle to the skin, not overly stripping it - and repairing the epidermis (top layer of the skin) to provide a healthy skin look and feel.
Overall, this is a brand I would recommend to people with dry skin who want to focus on being gentle to their skin.

Hyaluronic acid is an amazing humectant which draws and keeps water molecules on and in the skin. This means that after cleansing, your skin will feel hydrated and not stripped - like most other cleansers would.
This formula is also non-comedogenic (manning it doesn't clog pores), so it's perfect for people who may be suffering with acne but also have dry skin.
Finally, it is fragrance free: meaning it is less likely to irritate your skin.

This CeraVe product is designed for extremely dry skin which exhibits bumps and roughness. it contains ingredients which target the roughness and bumps through exfoliating agents and re-hydrates the skin through humectants and hydrating agents.
Salicylic acid (BHA) and lactic acid (AHA) are used to exfoliate the skin - removing dirt from the deeper layers of the skin by disturbing the top layer of the epidermis and releasing clogged pores. This is especially beneficial for people who do experience little bumps on their skin - as these ingredients will penetrate through the skin and remove any deeper impurities.
Urea is a component of the natural moisturizing factor produced by the skin. Urea is a humectant, which means it is able to absorb moisture from the environment and draw it to the skin. This ingredient is also an emollient that softens and smoothens the skin.
Urea helps improve the appearance of patches of dry, rough, scaly skin in two ways. This ingredient helps provides hydration to smooth texture, and it also works to help thin the buildup of dead skin cells.
Niacinamide (vitamin B3) is another amazing ingredient which is a building block of ceramides. It leaves a beautiful skin finish, and helps with regulating sebum production.
Once again, this product is also non-comedogenic (doesn't clog pores) and fragrance free - but in addition, it is also hypoallergenic.
